FDOT Traffic Advisory: Walton County & Okaloosa County Road Updates

FLORIDA ( WMBB The Florida Department of Transportation has released a traffic advisory beginning this upcoming Sunday for drivers traveling through Walton County and Okaloosa County.

As stated in a press announcement, motorists might face travel interruptions due to work being conducted for construction and upkeep purposes.

FDOT warns motorists that "all operations are subject to change based on weather conditions and might be postponed or rearranged due to adverse weather. Motorists should exercise extra care, particularly during nighttime travel within a work zone, and remain vigilant for construction personnel and machinery as they enter and exit the roadways."

The FDOT traffic advisory for Okaloosa County encompasses the following points:

Brooks Bridge Replacement Project — Motorists might face the following road interruptions from Sunday, April 27 through Thursday, May 1, occurring nightly between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., due to utility work and construction activities:

  • In the U.S., lanes will be alternately closed between Ferry Road and Pier Road on Route 98.
  • Lane closures will alternate on Santa Rosa Boulevard extending from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park.

The resurfacing project for Interstate 10 (I-10) will take place from west of the Yellow River to east of the Shoal River. Motorists will face alternating lane closures on I-10 between mile markers 50 and 56 starting from Sunday, April 27 until Thursday, May 1, during nighttime hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The work involves road resurfacing carried out by the crews.

U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast remains unchanged. Motorists might face periodic closings of U.S. 98, from Josie Road in Mary Esther to Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach, starting Sunday, April 27 and continuing until Thursday, May 1, during the hours of 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., due to paving activities as well as work needed to apply thermoplastic markings.

State Road 85 Resurfacing and Safety Enhancements from Hospital Drive to U.S. 90 – Motorists might face alternating S.R. 85 roadblocks, between Redstone Avenue and U.S. 90, from Sunday, April 27 to Thursday, May 1, occurring nightly from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., due to ongoing concrete pouring and resurfacing activities.

Mid-Bay Bridge Rehabilitation Project – Motorists might face sporadic lane closings on the Mid-Bay Bridge from Sunday, April 27, to Thursday, May 1, between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., due to construction work.

Operations for Turn Lanes on S.R. 85 West of Hugo Lane – Motorists might face sporadic lane closures on Monday, April 28, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., due to work being done on turning lanes.

U.S. 90 Regular Bridge Inspection Over Shoal River – On Thursday, May 1, motorists might face alternating shutdowns of the westbound lanes located east of S.R. 85 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., due to scheduled bridge inspections.

FDOT traffic advisory for Walton County includes the following:

U.S. 331 Resurfacing Project from south of I-10 to U.S. 90- The week of Sunday, April 27, two of the U.S. 331 northbound turn lanes will be temporarily closed at the U.S. 90 intersection in DeFuniak Springs. During this time, a single U.S. 331 lane will be available for left- and right-turn movements to access U.S. 90. The temporary traffic configuration will be in place through mid-June to provide space for construction activities at the southeast corner of the intersection. Additionally, drivers may experience intermittent U.S. 331 lane closures, from south of I-10 to U.S. 90, Sunday, April 27, through Thursday, May 1, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for construction activities.

U.S. 331 Bridge Rehabilitation over Choctawhatchee Bay – Motorists might face sporadic lane closures from Monday, April 28, to Thursday, May 1, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., due to bridge repair work.
