Road Closures and Construction Projects Across Missouri and Illinois
Several road closures and construction projects are currently underway across Missouri and Illinois, affecting major highways, bridges, and local roads. These projects aim to improve infrastructure, enhance safety, and accommodate ongoing maintenance and repairs. Below is a detailed overview of the current and upcoming work zones.
Missouri
Bollinger County
- Eastbound Route 72 will be reduced for concrete replacement from Lee Avenue to Route 61 in Jackson from Friday, August 22 through Monday, August 25, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. nightly.
- Route N will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction as crews perform scrub seal and add shoulders. This work will occur Monday, June 16 through Friday, August 29, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
- Route ZZ will be closed for bridge replacement near Glen Allen, starting Monday, May 19, with completion expected by Monday, September 9. The closure will be in effect 24 hours daily.
Butler County
- Route 158 will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction from Friday, August 15 through September 11, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily for pavement repairs.
- Route 142 will also be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as crews perform pavement repairs. Work will take place Monday, July 21 through Friday, September 12, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
- MoDOT will begin work on the intersection of Route M and County Road 459 in Poplar Bluff, tentatively scheduled for November 2025. The project includes flattening the hill crest to improve sight distance and could start as early as spring 2026. The road will be closed around the intersection for about two months.
Cape Girardeau County
- Route 72 will be reduced for overnight concrete replacement from Lee Avenue to Route 61 in Jackson, from Friday, August 22 through Monday, August 25, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. nightly.
- Kingsway Drive will be closed from August 12 to 19 for culvert replacement.
- Eastbound Route 72 will also be reduced during construction crews’ overnight concrete replacement. This section is located from Lee Avenue to Route 61 in Jackson, with work scheduled Friday, August 22 through Monday, August 25, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. nightly.
- Route 61 will be reduced to one lane as crews repair drainage systems between Brittany Drive and Wilson Road, with lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. until October 31.
- Route N will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction as crews perform scrub seal and add shoulders. This work will occur Monday, June 16 through Friday, August 29, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Dunklin County
- U.S. 62 will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction for asphalt overlay from the Arkansas State Line to Route 25 near Malden, weather permitting, from Monday, August 25 through Friday, October 31, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
- MoDOT plans to replace three bridges in the county, with work starting as early as June 2025. Each bridge closure is expected to last approximately three months.
Madison County
- Route 72 will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction from Pine Street in Ironton to West Main Street in Fredericktown, from Monday, April 7 through Wednesday, October 1, from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
- Crews will resurface the roadway and add shoulders.
Mississippi County
- MoDOT plans to replace four bridges on Route 77 and two on Route 80, with work beginning as early as spring 2027. Each closure will last approximately four months.
- U.S. 60/62 bridge over the Mississippi River at Cairo will be closed to all traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on August 11 through August 15, and again from August 18 through August 22, for annual safety inspections.
- Northbound I-57 will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction for pavement repairs, from mile marker 10.8 to 12 near Charleston, from Monday, August 25 through Thursday, September 4, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
- Southbound I-57 will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction for bridge repairs, from mile marker 21.4 to 20.6, from Monday, August 18 to Tuesday, August 26, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
- Route 75 will be closed as crews replace a bridge between Route 105 and County Road 339 near Anniston, with work starting Monday, July 7 and ending Friday, October 31.
New Madrid County
- Route U will be reduced to one lane with a 10-foot width restriction for asphalt overlay, from Route WW to County Road 730 near New Madrid, from Monday, August 12 through Saturday, August 31, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.
- Route D will be closed for bridge replacement over Drainage Ditch Number 1, from Monday, July 7 with completion anticipated Monday, December 1.
Pemiscot County
- Route 164 will be reduced to one lane with an 11-foot width restriction for pavement overlay and shoulder grading, from Monday, August 11 with completion anticipated Monday, February 2, 2026.
Perry County
- Don Welge Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi River will see construction beginning week of September 4, connecting Perryville, Mo., and Chester, Ill. via MO Route 51/IL Route 150. Completion is set for December 2026.
Scott County
- Route Z will be closed as railroad crews perform maintenance, from Tuesday, August 19 through Wednesday, August 20, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m..
- MoDOT plans to replace the Route C bridge over St. John’s Drainage Ditch and rehabilitate the Route BB bridge over Caney Creek, with work starting as early as February 2026. Each closure is expected to last three and two months, respectively.
St. Francois County
- Route 221 will have a box culvert replaced over Brewers Creek, with work starting as early as summer 2025. The road will be closed near the structure for about three months.
Stoddard County
- Route J will be closed as crews replace a culvert under the roadway, from Monday, August 18 through Wednesday, August 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
- Route J will also be reduced to one lane for culvert replacement, from Tuesday, August 12 through Thursday, August 14, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Wayne County
- Route 34 will be rehabilitated over Clark Creek, with work starting as early as February 2026. Motorists should anticipate a lane closure with an 11-foot width restriction in the vicinity of the bridge.
Illinois
Alexander County
- U.S. 60/62 bridge over the Mississippi River at Cairo will be closed to all traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on August 11 through August 15, and again from August 18 through August 22, for annual safety inspections.
Franklin County
- A water main project north of BCHS (including Burkett, McCann, Smith, and Lawrence Streets) will begin on Tuesday, May 27, with estimated completion by August.
Jefferson County
- I-64 will be closed between mileposts 62 and 73 from Mount Vernon to Centralia overnight on Tuesday, August 12, for emergency patching and guardrail repairs. Eastbound lanes will be closed from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., and westbound lanes from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Traffic will be detoured to Illinois 15.
Massac County
- I-24 will see lane reductions for bridge improvements, including a new deck overlay, expansion joint replacements, and pavement resurfacing. Work will start Monday, March 3 and continue through October 14, with one lane open in each direction.
Perry County
- U.S. 51 will be closed between Park Street and North Street in Du Quoin on Tuesday, July 8, for pavement replacement. The closure is expected to last approximately 30 days.
Randolph County
- Don Welge Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi River will see construction beginning week of September 4, connecting Perryville, Mo. and Chester, Ill. via MO Route 51/IL Route 150. Completion is set for December 2026.
Williamson County
- A short segment of Old Illinois 13 just east of the Illinois 148 intersection will be closed to all traffic from 12 a.m. Monday, August 4 through Monday, September 8, for roundabout construction.
Kentucky
Ballard County
- The intersection of U.S. 60/Kentucky Drive and KY 358/Bluegrass Drive in La Center will be placed in red flashing mode, creating a temporary four-way stop, starting Monday, March 31.
Calloway County
- Nighttime milling and paving along U.S. 641/12th Street near Tabard Drive to KY 80 will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Thursday, August 7, through approximately 3 weeks.
- Daytime work zone along KY 80 will be in place from Wednesday, July 23, for milling and paving work, expected to take about three weeks.
Crittenden County
- U.S. 60 will be reduced to one lane in the Marion area starting Wednesday, June 27, for milling and paving. Drivers should avoid parking on the street between Bellville and Depot Streets.
Fulton County
- A bridge replacement project on KY 166 near its intersection with KY 1125 will begin Tuesday, June 10, with no marked detour. The project is expected to be completed by August 31.
Graves County
- A daytime work zone on KY 94 will begin Tuesday, July 15, for milling and paving, with work expected to take about three weeks.
- KY 1124 will be closed near mile marker 5.6 to repair a failed cross drain, with repairs scheduled.
Hickman County
- A daytime, rolling work zone on Interstate 69 will begin Tuesday, June 3, from mile point 1.84 in Fulton County to mile point 20.3 in Graves County, with overall project completion by September 30.
Lyon County
- Nighttime lane restrictions on Interstate 24 will begin Friday, April 27, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., for crack sealing and striping. The project is expected to be completed by September 30, 2025.
Marshall County
- An extended closure on KY 2595/Lakeview Church Road will begin Monday, July 7, for new bridge construction, with the project expected to be completed by end of August.
McCracken County
- A nighttime lane restriction on I-24 will resume Wednesday, July 16, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., for micro-surfacing. The project is part of a $9.2 million micro-paving project along Interstates 24 and 69, with completion expected by September 30.
Trigg County
- KY 124/Cerulean Road will be closed for six weeks, starting Monday, July 21, for intersection realignment and reconstruction. The project is part of the Six-Year Highway Plan, with completion expected by November 15.
