The institute is part of KCA University, which has a rich history dating back to 1989 when it was established as the Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA). Founded by ICPAK, the institution aimed to address the growing need for professional accountants in Kenya. Over time, KCA became a key player in shaping the country’s accounting profession, training over 40% of Kenya’s certified accountants. In 2007, the college was upgraded to a full university while maintaining its commitment to professional programs under the School of Professional Programs.

For the 2024–2025 academic year, the fees for undergraduate programs vary depending on the school and course:

• School of Education: Bachelor of Education Arts, Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts and Film Technology, and Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Digital Media cost Ksh 180,830.
• School of Business: Bachelor of Commerce and related programs range from Ksh 174,270 to Ksh 202,700.
• School of Technology: BSc in Applied Computing and related programs cost between Ksh 182,320 and Ksh 206,180.
