Explore a Variety of Gardening and Nature Events This Summer and Fall

Whether you're an experienced gardener or just starting out, there are numerous opportunities to learn, connect, and enjoy the beauty of nature this summer and into the fall. From educational programs to community events, these activities offer something for everyone interested in gardening, horticulture, and the natural world.

Ongoing Events

Street of Dreams
Experience the latest in residential construction at the NW Natural Street of Dreams. This event showcases featured homes throughout the Portland metropolitan area, including locations like Lake Oswego, Happy Valley, and Forest Grove. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays through Sundays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays until August 24. Admission is $29.

Hoyt Arboretum Summer Youth Programs
Engage with nature and explore Pacific Northwest ecosystems through free, drop-in programs for youth and families. These sessions take place on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays through August 23. Visit Hoyt Arboretum at 4000 S.W. Fairview Blvd. for more information.

Art in the Garden
This summerlong exhibition features handcrafted artwork, including glass art and metal installations for both garden and home. Admission to the Oregon Garden is $14, and the event runs daily through September 2.

Honeybee Hikes
Join guided hikes that include wildlife observation, storytelling, and crafting activities for children aged 2-5. Each session includes garden admission for adults at a cost of $8. These events occur every Wednesday through October 1 at Leach Botanical Garden.

78th Street Heritage Farm Walking Tours
Stroll through the farm with a knowledgeable docent to learn about its history and role in horticulture education. Tours require registration and are available through October 11. Contact the Washington State University Extension for details.

Tea Ceremony Demonstration
Experience the traditional Japanese tea ceremony at the Portland Japanese Garden. These free demonstrations are held through October 18 and are included with the daily admission fee of $22.50.

Pittock Mansion Behind-the-scenes & Architecture Tours
Take a guided tour of areas not usually open to the public or learn about the mansion’s architectural story. Tickets include general admission to the museum and are available through November 9.

What’s New Garden Tour
Learn about the Leach Botanical Garden’s history, new additions, and seasonal plants during these monthly tours. Held on the third Friday of each month, the tour includes garden admission for $13.

Upcoming Events

East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District Webinars
Discover how to care for land in ways that benefit people, water, and wildlife. Topics include stormwater solutions, biochar, and water conservation. Register for upcoming workshops at emswcd.org/workshops-and-events/upcoming-workshops.

Greater Portland Iris Society Meeting
Join discussions on irises with guest speakers. Meetings are held on the first Tuesdays of March, April, September, October, and November at Ainsworth House in Oregon City.

Walk With a Friend at Tualatin Hills Nature Park
Take a guided walk to learn about the park’s plants, wildlife, and history. These events occur on the first Wednesdays and third Sundays at Tualatin Hills Nature Park in Beaverton.

Happy Valley Garden Club Monthly Meeting
Meetings are held on the second Tuesdays of each month at Happy Valley Baptist Church in Happy Valley.

Canby Garden Club Monthly Meeting
Join the club on the second Tuesdays of each month at Canby Public Library.

Introduction to Ikebana
Learn the basics of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, during this class held on the second Tuesdays. Includes instruction, plant material, and containers. Gresham Japanese Garden offers this course.

Portland Dahlia Society Monthly Meeting
Discuss seasonal topics and enjoy presentations on dahlias. Meetings are held on the second Tuesdays from February through November at Oaks Park Dance Pavilion.

Oregon Fuchsia Society Monthly Meeting
Explore fuchsias and related topics during meetings held on the third Tuesdays at Western Seminary in Portland.

Beaverton Garden Club Monthly Meeting
Attend meetings on the second Thursdays (excluding July and August) at Nexus Church in Beaverton.

The Art of Bonsai

On the Road Tour: Hood River Potpourri
Join a guided tour of local orchards and farms on August 14. Stops include the Mt. Adams Fruit Orchard, Hope Ranch Lavender Farm, and Packer Orchards and Farm Place. Registration is required.

Grow and Arrange Cut Flowers Year-Round
Learn how to plan and arrange cut flowers during a talk and hands-on workshop on August 15. Participants will create a bouquet to take home.

Greater Portland Iris Society Bearded Plant Sale
Purchase bearded iris on August 16-17 at Portland Nursery. Club members will provide guidance on planting and care.
