A Nostalgic Return to Dublin

The Gallagher brothers made a heartfelt tribute to their Irish heritage during a sold-out concert in Dublin, marking Oasis's return to Ireland after 16 years. The iconic Britpop band played two shows at Croke Park, the country’s largest stadium, drawing tens of thousands of fans for what has become a highly anticipated event.

The first gig attracted 80,000 attendees, with another scheduled for Sunday night. Despite some controversy over dynamic pricing last year, fans were able to enjoy the music under warm weather conditions, with temperatures above 20°C. Health officials even advised revellers to wear bucket hats due to high UV levels.

For Noel and Liam Gallagher, this reunion holds special significance. The Mancunian brothers have often spoken about their Irish roots, tracing their connection back to their Irish-born parents, Peggy and Thomas. Their stage decor includes an Irish harp, subtly reflecting their heritage.

Before the band took the stage, the crowd was treated to a unique pre-show moment as "The Auld Triangle" echoed through the stadium. As the brothers walked out, the audience sang along to "F***in’ In The Bushes," creating a memorable atmosphere. Fans were also delighted when Liam gave Noel a quick peck on the cheek, a gesture that added to the emotional tone of the evening.

Oasis kicked off the show with "Hello" and "Acquiesce," with Liam declaring, “Oasis vibes in the area, Dublin vibes in the area.” He described himself as a “Croke Park virgin” since the band had never performed there before. Adding humor to the moment, he noted, “This is the soberest I’ve ever been in Ireland.”

The crowd was a mix of Manchester City supporters, fans wearing Bohemian FC jerseys, and Dublin GAA kits, all dancing together in a sea of light blue. The energy was electric as the crowd sang along to " (What’s The Story) Morning Glory."

Liam dedicated "Roll With It" to the people of Charlestown, Co Mayo, where his mother is from, and later turned to the upper tiers to blow kisses to her. He also dedicated "Stand By Me" to his mother, who was in the crowd.

At one point, the entire stadium joined in singing "Ole, Ole, Ole" as a celebratory gesture. Fans described the city as “buzzing” for the reunion, with some comparing the event to Christmas in August.

Sarah and Neil Charlton traveled from Southampton to see the band, having spent months searching for standing tickets. They both expressed how nostalgic the experience was, as the songs brought back memories of their youth. For them, seeing Oasis live again was a significant milestone.

Lisa and Alan Roe shared similar sentiments, as their love for the band dates back to their wedding in the 1990s. Mr. Roe noted how the reunion tour brought a sense of nostalgia and joy to everyone in attendance.

Sinead Millea from Kilkenny, who saw the band in Limerick in 1996, said the reunion felt like a midlife reflection for many. She remarked on how the brothers seem to be getting along well, emphasizing that music transcends everything.

Eoin Whelan from Newcastlewest called the brothers' return “legendary” and “biblical,” comparing the event to Christmas in August. Having seen the band’s last performance in Ireland at Slane in 2009, he never thought the reunion would happen.

The support acts for the Dublin shows included Richard Ashcroft from The Verve and Cast, led by John Power. Ashcroft entertained the crowd by downing a full pint of Guinness while performing "Bittersweet Symphony."

The setlist featured classic hits such as "Cigarettes And Alcohol," "Little by Little," "Supersonic," "Some Might Say," and "Live Forever." The concert ended with a powerful encore featuring "Don’t Look Back In Anger," "Wonderwall," and "Champagne Supernova."

Oasis announced their reunion tour in August 2023, 16 years after their split in 2009. The 41-date tour has already taken the band to major cities across the globe, including Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and beyond.
