Georgia's Milton Eagles End 25-Game Win Streak in Disappointing Loss

The defending GHSA Class 5A state champions from Milton, Georgia, faced a tough challenge on Thursday night when they took on the No. 12 Buford Wolves. The game was held at the newly opened Phillip Beard Stadium at Dexter Wood Field, where the Wolves celebrated their new facility with a strong performance. Despite neither team playing at their best, Buford managed to defeat the Eagles, ending their impressive 25-game win streak.

This win streak included two state championship titles across different divisions. It started with a 31-0 victory over South Forsyth on October 6, 2023, and continued through several high-stakes games. Notably, the Eagles narrowly escaped a 39-37 win against Colquitt County in the GHSA Class 7A quarterfinals and beat Buford 13-10 in a thrilling season opener. Their dominance was further highlighted by a 37-28 win over the national powerhouse American Heritage Patriots, which placed them among the top teams in the country.

However, this recent loss marks a turning point for the Eagles. They will now shift their focus to next Friday’s game against The First Academy in Orlando, Florida. While the Royals haven’t officially started their season yet, they have already played in a high-profile preseason classic, losing 41-7 to the No. 5 IMG Academy. Although Milton isn’t ranked as highly as before, they are still expected to have a strong showing against the Royals.

Alaska's Dimond Lynx Face Early Setback

In Alaska, the Dimond Lynx of Anchorage had a difficult start to their season, suffering a 12-0 loss to Bartlett on Friday. This was a major blow for a team that was expected to be one of the top contenders in the state. Dimond had made history the previous year by winning their first state championship since 2001, with quarterback Cayden Pili leading the way. Pili was named Mr. Football and won the Gatorade Player of the Year Award, showcasing his dual-threat abilities with 1,744 passing yards and 18 touchdowns, along with 950 rushing yards and 22 scores.

Despite the early loss, Dimond remains a strong program in Alaska. The state has seen an increase in football popularity, producing several FBS recruits in recent years. Deuce Alailefaleula, a defensive lineman, is considered one of the top prospects and has committed to Boise State. While the loss to Bartlett may not be a major upset, it certainly raised some eyebrows in the state.

Utah's Defending Champions Fall in Opening Weekend

Utah’s three defending state champions—Morgan, Crimson Cliffs, and Bountiful—each saw their win streaks end in the opening weekend of the 2025 season. Morgan, the Class 3A champions, had a 13-game winning streak that came to an end with a 34-14 loss to Ridgeline. Crimson Cliffs, who won the Class 4A title, fell to Bingham, while Bountiful, the Class 5A champions, lost to Herriman.

These losses highlight the competitive nature of high school football in Utah. Morgan will look to bounce back against Sky View, while Crimson Cliffs faces Provo. Bountiful will try to regain their footing against Farmington. Each team will need to regroup quickly if they hope to reclaim their state titles.

Other High School Football Highlights

Other notable games include Douglas County’s 21-7 win over North Gwinnett, Stockbridge’s 59-14 victory over Dutchtown, and McEachern’s dominant 50-17 win over Walton. Meanwhile, a Missouri high school football team has decided to cancel its 2025 season. These developments show the dynamic and ever-changing landscape of high school sports across the country.
