Food Safety Inspections in Berks County: A Detailed Overview

In Reading and Muhlenberg Township, local inspectors conduct the evaluations, while the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) handles inspections for the remaining parts of the county. Inspection Frequency and Triggers

All food vendors in Berks County are inspected at least once a year. Additional inspections can be triggered by various factors such as changes in ownership, follow-up visits due to previous non-compliance, or complaints filed with the PDA. The results of these inspections are posted every other week, providing the public with regular updates on the status of local food establishments.

Accessing Inspection Reports

Anyone interested in checking the inspection history of a specific vendor can view the last report online. Clicking on the PDF version of the inspection report provides detailed information about the findings, including any violations and corrective actions taken.

If a food provider is labeled as out of compliance, it means there are one or more violations that require a return visit by an inspector. The establishment is given time to address the issues and remains open during this period. Complaints can also be submitted online to the PDA for further investigation.
