I asked the universe for money — now I earn £20K a month

A Journey of Financial Empowerment

Welcome back to Me and My Money, a series that explores the financial lives of individuals across the nation. This week, we meet Sharan Sammi, a 44-year-old money mindset and abundance mentor from Wolverhampton, who lives with her husband Gursh, 47, and their two children.

Sharan spent two decades in banking before transitioning into her current role as a manifestation coach. Her business, which helps women attract wealth through positive thinking, generates between £6,000 and £20,000 per month.

Growing Up with a Healthy Relationship with Money

Sharan's upbringing played a significant role in shaping her financial mindset. Born into an Indian family, she was raised by parents who valued education and financial responsibility. While they were not overly strict, they instilled in her a deep appreciation for what they had.

From a young age, Sharan’s mother would discuss topics like interest rates and saving, while her father would show her his shop’s accounts. At 16, she started working multiple jobs, including as a waitress, telesales agent, and cashier at HSBC, all while pursuing her studies.

The Power of Manifestation

Sharan has always believed in the power of manifestation. She recalls using it as a child, entering competitions and believing she would win—often successfully. At 22, while working at National Australia Bank, she bought a self-development book called "The Rules of Work" by Richard Templar, which changed her life.

Through this book, she learned about gratitude, affirmations, and emulating the person she wanted to become. She began dressing professionally and reading the Financial Times, which led to promotions and salary increases. She even manifested a promotion in Birmingham, which resulted in a pay raise from £22,000 to £36,000.

In her free time, she trained in coaching and healing, aiming to help other women achieve success.

Turning Manifestation into a Career

After returning from maternity leave with her second child in 2018, Sharan realized she wasn’t happy with her career path. However, it wasn’t until she was made redundant in January 2020 that she found the push she needed. The redundancy came with a six-figure payout, which she used for investments and personal development. It marked a turning point in her life, leading her to start her own coaching business as a money manifestation mentor.

Sharan's monthly income ranges from £6,000 to £20,000. Her outgoings include:

What Is a Money Manifesting Coach?

As a money manifesting coach, Sharan helps clients explore their relationship with themselves, which reflects their relationship with money. She guides them in building a dream budget and breaking down subconscious mental blocks that prevent them from achieving more money, confidence, or self-worth.

For example, if a client grew up hearing they couldn’t afford things, this belief could create a scarcity mindset. Through group or one-to-one sessions, sometimes involving hypnosis and healing work, Sharan helps clients shift to an abundant mindset where they believe they can achieve their desires.

Addressing Scepticism

Sceptics often argue that manifesting doesn’t work, but Sharan believes they are focused on negativity rather than positivity. She emphasizes that "what you think about, you bring about." Many sceptics have an "a-ha" moment and then seek her help to change their mindset.

Monthly Incomings and Outgoings

Sharan's business is diverse, with global clients and various coaching options, including one-to-one, group coaching, workshops, and nine-step programs. Her income varies, but she invests £1,000, spends £1,000 on the mortgage, and pays £208 for council tax. Other expenses include £58 for water, £210 for energy, £75 for phones, and £208 for council tax. She also spends £40 on internet, £15 on TV licence, £15 on Netflix, £8.33 on Amazon Prime, and £5 on Disney. Additional costs include £150 for life insurance, £740 on work-related expenses, £478 on childcare, and £250 on groceries. She saves £1,000 for holidays and spends up to £600 on takeaways and eating out.

Splurge or Save?

Sharan believes in both splurging and saving. She invests in premium bonds, savings accounts, or shares, and uses the proceeds to enjoy experiences with her family, such as dining out, going bowling, rock climbing, or taking trips to the cinema or theatre.

Top Money Tip

Sharan’s top tip is to focus on improving self-belief, self-worth, and confidence. She believes that "energy goes where attention flows," and focusing on a positive attitude toward money can empower individuals to manifest more wealth and live the lifestyle they desire.

Biggest Challenge

One of Sharan’s biggest challenges was the belief that she had to work very hard for money. She realized this limiting belief affected her quality of life, leading to burnout and less time with family and friends. Instead, she shifted her mindset to working smarter and making her money work for her.

Financial Mindset and Children

Sharan and her husband run their own businesses and are conscious of how they talk about money around their children. Their daughter started a jewellery business at eight and has earned over £500. They teach their children the principles of saving, spending, and giving, splitting their weekly pocket money into three parts. Sharan is also developing a money mindset program for children, aiming to launch it in schools and online soon.
