Alabama's First Dog Passes Away; Governor Ivey Mourns Loss

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WKRG Alabama Governor Kay Ivey revealed on Friday that her cherished dog and First Dog, Missy, passed away. She was approximately 10 years old.

As stated in a press release from Ivey's office, she took in Missy in January 2019 after adopting her from the Montgomery Humane Shelter.

The statement indicated that the governor and Missy were figuratively inseparable from the moment Missy was adopted until her passing.

"Regardless of whether the governor was in her office at the Governor’s Mansion, entertaining guests in the rear patio, having dinner, or perhaps cruising around the lake on her pontoon boat, Missy remained constantly beside the governor," stated the announcement.

Ivey referred to Missy as a "wonderful friend" and mentioned that she made the Governor’s Mansion feel like home.
