Andrew Mukuba Joins Eagles: Philly's C.J. Gardner-Johnson Replacement Found?
In the second round of the 2025 draft, the Eagles remained in their original position. NFL Draft and ended up s electing Texas DB/S Andrew Mukuba at No. 64 overall .
The reactions quickly followed, agreeing that Mukuba would mesh well within Vic Fangio’s defensive scheme and noting his adaptability to play either in the slot or at safety (think of him like a potential C.J. Gardner-Johnson substitute). Some commentators proposed that the Eagles might have selected Mukuba higher than expected since they viewed him more as a second-round prospect. However, given that their next opportunities were with the final picks of Round 2 and then again in Round 3, it seems Howie Roseman and his team likely felt compelled not to risk missing out on him by waiting too long.
Mukuba’s size is another thing being questioned, but so was DeVonta Smith’s frame and we all know how that worked out. The second-round pick has the instincts and talent he’ll need to find a way on the field, and there’s a role for him right away if he can rise to the challenge.
