Driver Hospitalized After Crashing Dump Truck Into Trees Near Deer Park
A motorist was admitted to the hospital after they apparently blacked out and steered their dump truck off the road, down an embankment, and into some trees in Deer Park.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office along with the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department were dispatched to an incident involving a vehicular accident near the intersection of Lake Cook Road and Plum Grove Road in Deer Park.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said a 2007 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on Lake Cook Road near Plum Grove Road.
The driver, a 60-year-old Norridge man, believed a medical condition made him “pass out.”
Covelli stated that the dump truck drifted into the opposing lanes of traffic when the driver had become unconscious.
The vehicle veered off the road toward the northern side and descended down a slope, colliding with multiple trees.
Paramedics transported the driver to an area hospital with minor injuries.
“We are grateful this crash did not result in another vehicle being struck or more serious injuries,” Covelli said.
Due to a medical condition that might have contributed to the incident, the sheriff’s office informed the Illinois Secretary of State.
The Illinois Secretary of State will decide the driver’s license status.
Two large tow trucks from A-1 Express Towing were dispatched to handle the situation, aiming to extract the truck from the forested zone. Meanwhile, emergency teams cordoned off the westbound lane as they carried out this operation.
