High School Sports Results (Thursday): Platte Valley Snags Victory Over Baseball Powerhouse Eaton

In Eaton, the revitalized Platte Valley team ended their long-standing losing streak against the consistently competitive Reds. Leading from start to finish, the Broncos took an early advantage with a 2-0 score in the first inning and extended it further to 4-0 during the second. Despite efforts from Eaton to stage a comeback, they couldn't close the gap fully as time ran out in the final inning. Adding another two runs in the top of the seventh helped solidify the Bronco’s lead at 6-2. At bat, freshman Cooper Moffatt was outstanding for Platte Valley, achieving two hits out of four attempts along with earning three RBIs. On the opposing side, seniors like Cooper Nider and juniors such as Shane Welle contributed significantly for Eaton with each player scoring two RBIs respectively. This victory propelled Platte Valley to an overall record of 11 wins and six losses, placing them fourth in the Class 4A/3A/2A Patriot League standings with a mark of 4 victories versus just 2 defeats. Meanwhile, Eaton saw their standing drop slightly after this loss, now holding eleven wins alongside five defeats and sitting third within their conference bracket having won three games compared to three lost ones.
In Briggsdale, Prairie emerged victorious in both games of the doubleheader against Briggsdale. They secured their first win with a score of 17-0 within four innings and followed up with another victory at 8-3 over five innings. During the first game, Prairie managed nine hits compared to Briggsdale’s single hit. Leading the charge was Prairie’s junior player Dylan Chase who went 3-for-3, contributing significantly with four RBIs, four runs scored, along with recording a triple and a double. Briggsdale’s sole hit came from senior Cash Haun. Junior pitcher Brennon Bringelson played impressively during the initial match, completing four innings without conceding walks and fanning six batters. Moving onto the second part of this twin-bill series, which saw closer competition than the previous contest, Prairie still held the edge after accumulating five hits versus Briggsdale's four. Again, Bringelson shined as he threw all five innings but allowed three unearned runs off four hits; his performance included striking out nine players while issuing just one walk. For Briggsdale, seniors like Tavis Radke and sophomores such as Ryott Simmonds made notable contributions by securing individual hits alongside RBIs. Following these victories, Prairie advanced their season record to 10-5 overall, maintaining a perfect standing at 6-0 inside the 1A District 5 bracket. Meanwhile, Briggsdale faced setbacks dropping to 3-8-1 overall standings, placing them at 1-5-1 within district matches.
In Fort Collins, Resurrection Christian eked out a victory against Liberty Common with a final score of 7-5 after eight innings, extending their impressive winning streak. Despite trailing 4-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Cougars rallied back in the top of the seventh by scoring two crucial runs. They then added another three runs during the additional frame. Leading the offensive charge was sophomore Braedyn Budd, who went 3-for-4 at bat, securing two RBIs along with a double. Meanwhile, senior Charley Wilson had an outstanding day as well, hitting safely three times out of four attempts, including three doubles, scoring three runs, and driving in one run. On the mound, sophomomore Budd teamed up with senior Merick Fisbeck to hold opponents to just four earned runs off eight hits, while also tallying twelve strikeouts and issuing only two walks. This hard-fought triumph marked the Cougars' eighth successive win, improving their season record to 11-4 overall and maintaining their strong standing within the 4A/3A/2A Patriot League with a conference mark of 6-1.

In Greeley, Dayspring Christian took an early 4-0 advantage over Clear Creek after four innings and managed to keep their opponent’s bats quiet, conceding only one hit throughout the game. Senior pitcher Logan Vaniddekinge from Dayspring played all five innings, giving up just one earned run on one hit while recording 10 strikeouts and issuing two walks. Leading the offensive charge was sophomore Gavin Bohl, who went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs and scored once himself. With this win, Dayspring Christian advanced to a record of 12-3 overall and secured a strong position within their conference standings at 4-1 in 2A Mile High league action.
Inning 8 ended with Sterling winning 4–3 against Valley. Despite their efforts, Valley narrowly missed out on securing this key match victory. In the sixth inning, the Vikings managed to score twice, taking a brief 3-1 lead going into what would be the last scheduled frame. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Sterling rallied back with two scores, pushing the game into overtime. Junior player Alfonso Medina was responsible for all of Valley’s scoring, getting hits in two of his five at-bats. This loss brings Valley's record down to 8 wins and 9 losses total; within the 4A/3A/2A Patriot League, they now stand at 2 victories and 5 defeats.
In Brush, the score was 5-1 favoring Brush over Weld Central. Weld Central struggled offensively, experiencing their sixth straight defeat and dropping to an overall record of 6-11, including a 0-6 standing in the 4A/3A/2A Patriot League. Initially leading 1-0, Weld Central’s advantage didn’t last long as Brush turned things around with four runs during the fourth inning. In total, Brush managed seven hits compared to Weld Central’s three. Junior Lucas Johann accounted for all of his team's RBIs.
In Windsor, Rocky Mountain won again with a score of 5 to 4 against Windsor. This marks their second close match within the same week where they faced off in a competitive league game. Initially leading by scoring twice in the opening frame, Windsor soon found themselves trailing as Rocky Mountain responded strongly with three runs during the next half-inning. Despite narrowing down the gap to only two points when they managed an additional point in the final part of the seventh round, Windsor couldn’t quite seal the victory. Senior player Ethan Fillinger from Windsor had a commendable performance at bat going 2-for-3 along with contributing significantly through his batting efforts which included hitting a homerun and securing two RBIs. On the mound, seniors Fillinger alongside junior Wyatt Gustafson delivered effective pitching over seven rounds; limiting opponents’ scores largely thanks to eleven strikeouts while giving away merely one earned run based on six hits allowed and issuing walks thrice. With this outcome, Windsor’s record now stands at thirteen wins versus five losses overall, specifically standing at fifth place among sixteen teams competing under the banner of both divisions A & B North League games.

Girls golf
In Sterling, Windsor and Resurrection Christian both secured the top spot with a 39-over-par, three-player cumulative score of 255, resulting in a tie. Severance took the third position with a total of 274. The event saw local teams excelling as they outperformed others among the 20 participating squads at the Sky Ranch Golf Club during the Sterling Invitational.
At Windsor, senior Macy Kleve scored a 2-under-par of 70, securing her top position overall. The Wizards' performance was bolstered by sophomore McKenna Hersh with an impressive score of 92 placing ninth, junior Ruth Stephens who clocked in at 93 for tenth place, and senior Abbie Winterbottom scoring 94 to grab the twelfth spot.
Resurrection Christian got a well-rounded performance from their seniors and juniors, with senior Brooke May (81, 3rd), junior Karina Garcia (84, 4th), and junior Avery Stockslager (90, 6th) contributing significantly.
As representatives for Severance, Senior Sophie Morgan (88, 5th) participated alongside senior Katelyn Johnson (91, 7th), senior Reagan Mendoza (101, 21st), and sophomore Jaycee Runner (95, 13th).
Boys lacrosse
In Broomfield, Resurrection Christian triumphed over Jefferson Academy with a score of 12 to 2. The Cougars extended their winning streak to six games and boasted an impressive record of 9-2 overall and 4-0 within the 4A Northern Conference. By the end of the first quarter, they were ahead 5-1, and this lead grew to 11-2 at halftime. Among the standout performers for Resurrection Christian were sophomores Jacob Arnold—who scored three times—and Jacob Adams, who contributed two goals along with two assists. Additionally, senior Zander Adfield also delivered strong performances with his pair of goals and assists.
Girls soccer
In Windsor, Weld Central's match against Windsor Charter ended in a tie at 2-2. Senior Kayla Branch of Weld Central scored twice, but her efforts were met with one goal each from Windsor Charter seniors Dillan Brown and Isha Sharma. This resulted in both teams failing to secure victory. After this game, the Rebels updated their season record to 3-9-1 overall, placing them at 1-3-1 within the 3A/2A Patriot League standings. Meanwhile, the Firebirds improved their standing to 4-3-2, also holding onto a 1-3-1 league record.
In Johnstown, Roosevelt edged out Greeley Central with a score of 1-0 in what was quite a close game. The sole goal came during the first half courtesy of freshman Addalynn Burbridge from Roosevelt. Assisting her was senior Isla Molina. Goalkeeper Karla Herrera, also a freshman, played a crucial role by making 14 saves which secured their victory. This win ended Roosevelt's six-match losing skid; they now stand at 2-9-1 overall and have moved up to 1-6 within the 4A/3A Longs Peak league standings. Meanwhile, Greeley Central dropped to a record of 2-8-3, including a 0-4-2 mark in conference matches.
At Fort Morgan, Frontier Academy secured a victory with a score of 1, against Fort Morgan 0. This win marked their 11th successive triumph and improved their season record to 11-2 overall, maintaining an undefeated streak within the 3A/2A Patriot League at 5-0. Senior player Lexi Jamsay from Frontier Academy found the back of the net during the first half, scoring the sole goal of the game. The assist came courtesy of junior Bailey Girten.
Powderhorn 9, Greeley West 0, in Fort Collins: Greeley West had difficulties across all aspects of its final game of the season. The Spartans concluded their campaign with an overall record of 3-10-2 and went winless in conference play with a 0-6 mark in the 5A/4A Northern Conference.
In Severance, Thompson Valley won against Severance with a score of 9-0. Severance struggled throughout the game and couldn’t find their rhythm during this league defeat. Thompson Valley dominated early by scoring four goals in the first half and added another five in the second. This result brought Thompson Valley’s record to 6-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 within the 4A/3A Longs Peak conference.
In Sterling, Sterling won 4 to 0 against Valley. At halftime, Valley was behind only 1-0, yet they couldn’t rev up their offense during the game. This league matchup marked Valle’s fifth successive loss as they slipped to an overall record of 3-8 and stood at 0-4 within the 3A/2A Patriot League rankings.
Girls tennis
In Greeley, Windsor secured victories across all seven matches with straight-set wins, notably achieving a decisive 6-2, 6-0 triumph in No. 1 singles. This brought their season record up to 3-7. Conversely, Greeley Central’s record dropped to 0-11 after this non-conference meet.
Boys volleyball
In the match of Severance, they came out victorious with a score of 3 to 0 against Eagle Ridge Academy. This win marks their 12th consecutive victory, bringing their season record to an impressive 16 wins and 6 losses, specifically dominating within their conference at 13-0 in the 4A Northern Conference games. They secured this triumph with scores of 25-17, 25-19, and 25-20. Leading from the front was senior player Aleksander Kimek who delivered outstandingly with 14 kills along with adding three blocks. Another notable performance came from fellow senior Gabe Schneekloth contributing significantly through his strategic gameplay with 38 assists alongside securing four blocks for them.
