Hopkinsville Man Charged with Methamphetamine Distribution

PADUCAH, Ky. (WBKO) — A federal grand jury in Paducah issued an indictment on March 11 against a man from Hopkinsville for allegedly distributing methamphetamine.

As stated in the indictment, 41-year-old Tommy Powers faces charges for allegedly distributing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine twice—once in Christian County on October 11, 2014, and again on October 15, 2024.

This week, Powers appeared in court for the first time before a U.S. Magistrate Judge at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. The judge ruled that he must remain in custody until the trial begins.

Should he be found guilty, he must face a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for at least 10 years up to a potential life sentence. The final decision regarding his punishment will rest with a federal district court judge who will take into account the sentencing guidelines along with various legal considerations as stated in the document.

Parole does not exist in the federal system.

The investigation into this matter is being conducted by the DEA Paducah Post of Duty Office, the ATF Bowling Green Field Office, along with the Hopkinsville Police Department.
