La. House Resolution Seeks to Shield Cenla's Electric Service Jobs
BATON ROUGE, La. (KALB) - A legislator from Central Louisiana stated that their aim is to safeguard local employment should a nearby electrical firm decide to offload its operations.
House Concurrent Resolution 11 (HCR 11) encourages the Louisiana Public Service Commission (LPSC) and Cleco Power to approve "the sale of a regulated utility solely under specific conditions." The legislation mentioned that Cleco Power is considering proposals to sell the business.
Louisiana House Speaker Pro Tem Mike Johnson (R-District 27) The legislator representing Pineville and portions of Rapides Parish introduced this bill. According to him, the purpose is to safeguard the approximately 600 permanent staff members employed at Cleco’s main offices in Pineville, as well as all present service workers, should Cleco be acquired by another firm.
The legislation is currently in its initial phase. HCR 11 has been sent to the House Committee on Commerce. To be enacted as state law, it must first pass through both the House floor and the Senate floor.
