NC Election Board Approves Nearly 100 Student and Employee IDs for 2025-2026 Ballots

The North Carolina Board of Elections has endorsed nearly 100 student and staff ID cards for utilization in the 2025 local elections as well as the 2026 primary and general elections.

The authorization encompasses student IDs for every institution within the UNC System as well as numerous other colleges and universities. Additionally, it covers employee ID cards for various educational entities, certain county and local government offices, and charter schools.

The board stated that every accepted ID will include a photograph which can be utilized to verify an individual’s identity upon checking in to cast their ballot.

Approved IDs will remain valid for voters' photos until December 31, 2026. Any prior ID approvals were invalid after December 31, 2024.

The municipal elections in North Carolina will take place in September, October, and November this year. In the upcoming year, the primary election will occur in March, followed by the general election in November.
