One Fatality Confirmed as Early Investigation Reveals No Working Smoke Detectors in Rock County House Fire

MILTON, Wis. (WMTV) — The Lakeside Fire-Rescue reported that a house fire in Rock County claimed one individual's life early Saturday morning.

At 4:16 a.m., Rock County 911 was alerted about a house fire on Ansley Avenue in Milton. According to authorities, the person who called mentioned seeing flames coming from the windows of the residence.

The person who made the call saw a vehicle in the driveway yet observed no individuals around the house. Assuming there might be someone trapped within the flames, they started banging on both the main entrance at the front and the door located at the rear of the property, according to statements from Lake-Fire Rescue.

The first responders entered the residence and discovered a deceased adult female in the living area.

Initial investigations indicated that the fire might have been burning slowly for an extended duration prior to being detected, officials pointed out.

Officials think the blaze began in the living room; however, the reason is under ongoing investigation. The investigators indicate that the fire seems to have been accidental.

Authorities noted that there appeared to be no functional smoke detectors in the residence.

A total of thirteen firefighters and emergency medical services staff members went to the location.
