Patriots Strengthen Offense, Select Wide Receiver Kyle Williams 69th Overall
On Friday evening, the Patriots chose Kyle Williams from Washington State as a wide receiver with the 69th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
In the third round, New England tackles their significant requirement for a wide receiver, aiming to revamp their receiving corps which found it challenging to create distance from defenders during the 2024 season.
Standing at 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds, Williams was recognized for his ability to create large plays for the Cougars, along with his agility to find openings in tight spaces against defensive pressure. Despite facing challenges in securing passes because of his relatively small hands (measuring only 8 ¾ inches), his potential for explosive plays offers Drake Maye a formidable asset that pairs well with talents such as Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte.
With a remarkable performance of a 4.40-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in March, Williams will become one of the speediest athletes on the team when he joins DeMario Douglas in New England.
Williams became the Patriots’ third consecutive offensive selection at the start of the 2025 draft, following offensive tackle Will Campbell (first round, No. 4 overall) and running back TreVeyon Henderson (second round, No. 38 overall).
When this publication was released, the Patriots were scheduled to have one final turn at picking on Friday, with their next selection set for the 77th overall spot.
The Patriots' second selection in the third round was acquired through their deal with Atlanta during the previous summer. This trade involved sending Pro Bowl defensive end Matthew Judon to the Falcons before the start of the 2024 regular season.
