Portland Man Pleads 'Not Guilty' After Tear Gas Standoff Ends in Tent Arrest
PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A man involved in two confrontations with law enforcement in northwestern Portland last week made an appearance in court on Friday.
The first incident took place on April 14 when authorities claim they attempted to make an arrest. The police reported that they were looking for 44-year-old Raul Nava, Jr., who is wanted on an outstanding warrant. According to authorities, he reportedly threatened the officers with a knife and also used pepper spray against them.

The The second event occurred on April 16, involving the police, armored vehicles, and tactical teams. Surrounding Nava's tent, they aimed to apprehend him. The situation culminated in law enforcement employing tear gas to extract Nava from the tent and place him under arrest.
On Friday, Nava entered a plea of not guilty to accusations including two counts of attempting to assault a law enforcement officer, improper use of a weapon, threatening behavior, and additional charges.
His next court appearance is set for June.
