SF Police Warn: Watch Out for Scam Texts
SIoux Falls, SD (KELO) -- The police in Sioux Falls are looking into a text message scam that led to the depletion of a man's bank account.
The police indicate that the text message seemed to originate from the victim's bank, inquiring about a transaction.
This was succeeded by a telephone call inquiring about an unusual electronic fund transfer from the victim’s account.
"The individual pretending to be from the bank asked him to transfer all the funds from his account into another newly provided account number. He was told to do so for safety reasons... he followed this instruction," stated Sgt. Aaron Benson.
As officers look into the case... authorities mention that the victim is collaborating with his bank to determine whether they can recover any of the funds.
