Teen Arrested as Police Uncover Semi-Automatic Rifle During D.C. Traffic Stop

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now A 19-year-old male has been taken into custody and is facing multiple gun-related charges following a vehicle stop on Thursday in Northwest Washington, D.C., reported the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

The Metropolitan Police Department reports that officers stopped a black Honda Civic just after midnight in the 1500 block of 7th Street NW.

When they were pulled over, the police observed an opened alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle. According to law enforcement, as soon as the officer attempted to pick up the bottle, a semiautomatic weapon became visible on the floor under the driver’s seat.

The officers accused the individual of transporting a rifle or shotgun beyond private properties like homes or offices, having unregistered ammo, possessing a high-capacity magazine for firearms, owning an unregistered gun, and keeping an opened alcoholic beverage inside their vehicle.

The individual continues to be held at the Third District for additional procedures, according to law enforcement officials.

MPD offers up to $2,500 for information leading to the recovery of illegal firearms, and anyone with information is asked to call (202) 727-9099 or text 50411.
