Trump's Deportation Crackdown Sparks Backlash: Poll Shows Half Say He’s Gone Too Far

( The Hill Immigration continues to be a significant issue for President Trump as he nears the 100-day milestone of his administration; nonetheless, polls indicate that certain individuals believe his measures on this divisive subject may have been excessive.

A new survey from The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research discovered that 46 percent of U.S. adults typically support Trump’s approaches to immigration, whereas 53 percent oppose them.

His rating for immigration issues stands roughly 10 percentage points above his approval on economic and trade matters, with both of these areas receiving a 37 percent favorable response each.

Approximately half of the people surveyed, 48%, believe that Trump might have overstepped with his deportation policies and has "gone too far." About 32% express satisfaction, whereas 18% think he hasn't taken it far enough.

There is also a divide along partisan lines, where many Democrats think he has exceeded appropriate limits, whereas most Republicans believe his measures have been "just about right."

Among the policy-related queries featured in the questionnaire, participants showed the lowest approval for those related to the revocation of student visas With 28 percent supporting the action, 24 percent remaining indifferent, and 47 percent opposing it.

On Friday, the Trump administration restored over 1,000 visas For international students following multiple legal challenges.

In contrast, 41% of those surveyed supported sending Venezuelan immigrants whom the U.S. alleges to be gang members to a jail in El Salvador, whereas 38% were in favor of deporting every immigrant residing unlawfully in the country, as per the survey findings.

Trump has signed multiple executive orders and introduced multiple measures focused on immigration upon returning to the White House. His administration has also deported 200 Venezuelan and Salvadoran men, which has prompted numerous challenges in court .

A survey carried out between April 17-21 by The Associated Press-NORC across the nation involved 1,260 adults through both online and phone interviews. The general margin of sampling error stands at +/- 3.9 percentage points.
