Trump's Deportation Crackdown Spurs Backlash: Poll Shows Half Say He've Gone Too Far

( The Hill Immigration continues to be a significant issue for President Trump as he nears the 100-day milestone of his administration. However, polls suggest that some people believe his measures on this divisive subject may have exceeded acceptable limits.

A new survey from The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research discovered that 46 percent of U.S. adults typically support Trump’s approaches to immigration, whereas 53 percent oppose them.

His immigration rating stands approximately 10 percentage points above his favorability ratings for the economy and trade, both of which were rated at 37 percent.

Approximately half of the people surveyed, 48%, believe that Trump might have overstepped with his immigration enforcement measures and has "gone too far." About 32% approve of his actions, whereas 18% think he hasn't been stringent enough.

There is also a division along political party lines, where many Democrats think he has exceeded appropriate limits, whereas most Republicans believe his steps have been "just about right."

Of all the policy-related queries featured in the survey, participants showed the lowest approval for those related to the revocation of student visas With 28 percent supporting the action, 24 percent having no opinion, and 47 percent opposing it.

On Friday, the Trump government restored over 1,000 visas For international students following multiple legal battles.

According to the survey, 41 percent of participants supported incarcerating Venezuelan migrants whom the U.S. labels as gang members at a prison in El Salvador, whereas 38 percent agreed with deporting every immigrant residing unlawfully in the country.

Trump has signed multiple executive orders and put into practice various measures focused on immigration after returning to the White House; during this time, his administration has deported 200 Venezuelan and Salvadoran men, which sparked numerous challenges in court .

A survey carried out jointly by The Associated Press and NORC from April 17 to April 21 involved interviewing 1,260 adults across the nation through both online and phone methods. The total margin of sampling error stands at +/- 3.9 percentage points.
