Two School Resource Officers Assaulted Following Student Altercation in Highland
On Thursday evening, two law enforcement officers were physically attacked following their response to a fight among pupils at a charter high school in the Highland area, according to statements from district authorities.
A video provided by an eyewitness captures the incident of officers being attacked in the parking lot of a shopping center adjacent to Entrepreneur High School. When asked for comments, the educational institution declined to make any statements. Entrepreneur High School operates as a publicly funded charter facility located in Highland under the management of Real Journeys Academies. Although this school oversees its daily activities and academic programs independently, it collaborates with SBCUSD regarding security matters involving police support.
The identities of the individuals in the video remain unclear. It depicts multiple females, among them at least one adolescent, shouting profanities and getting into physical altercations with law enforcement officials from the San Bernardino City School District.
A new woman shows up and shouts at an officer, insisting that the girl is her daughter. You can hear her telling him not to touch her and instructing the younger woman to stay calm. Shortly afterward, the arguing and shoving started again when another woman confronted the female officer. This woman grabbed hold of the officer’s hair, causing her bun to come undone.
Kandi Thompson, who has a grandson enrolled at the school, forwarded an email to parents detailing the incident involving the school police.
"The school administration wants to assure everyone that neither the students nor the staff ever faced any risk, since the event took place after all the students had already left for the day," they stated.
Following the attack, law enforcement officials are observed communicating via radios before San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies show up at the scene. As of now, the District Attorney hasn’t responded to KCAL News regarding potential charges being brought forward.
