Woman Charged with Deadly Shooting Near Lincoln Park Makes Court Appearance

A female accused of murder in relation to a fatal shooting in Lincoln Park made an appearance in court on Friday.

According to the police, it was the collective effort of neighboring residents assisting law enforcement that resulted in an arrest being made in this case.

The police apprehended 25-year-old Josalyn Fowler. She is charged with murder and attempted robbery and appeared before a judge on Friday.

Last week, Kevin Patel, a 28-year-old resident of Philadelphia, was fatally shot near his home on Lill Avenue, just steps away from his apartment in Lincoln Park.

His relatives remember him as being intelligent, kind, and caring.

A GoFundMe page has been established by the Patel family.

Fowler was taken into custody at her residence in Thornton.

Timothy Knudsen, Alderman for the 43rd Ward, states that following the collective efforts of the neighborhood coming forward with details and providing surveillance footage, this arrest was made possible.

Alderman Knudsen mentioned that they recently went door-to-door in the Lill area, and residents are feeling shaken up," he stated. "However, folks are also quite motivated. This experience has led them to connect with their neighbors differently. Their aim is to build a more secure neighborhood and convey a message of support: ‘We’ve got each other’s backs.’

The police mentioned that they have detained another individual of interest for further questioning related to this case; however, as of now, no charges have been pressed against them.

A judge commanded Fowler to remain in detention until her trial takes place.
