A New Era for the Opel Mokka

The new Opel Mokka has made a bold entrance, marking a significant transformation for this popular SUV. When it was first introduced in 2022, the Mokka was one of the first models to feature the Vizor design, a signature element that has since become synonymous with Opel's modern aesthetic. Now, the updated version continues to deliver an exceptional experience for both drivers and passengers, showcasing a range of technological advancements.

As part of a revitalized model lineup, the new Opel Mokka is making its debut in South Africa alongside the latest version of the Opel Grandland. These two SUVs are designed to stand out from the crowd, offering unique features and performance.

Two distinct models of the Mokka have been unveiled: the Mokka Edition and the Mokka GS Line. Both are powered by the same turbocharged 1.2-liter petrol engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This ensures a balance between power and efficiency, making the Mokka a versatile choice for various driving conditions.

What’s New in the Opel Mokka?

Visually, the new Mokka has undergone several enhancements to make a bold and dynamic statement. The front and rear bumpers have been redesigned with improved aerodynamics, while the Eco LED headlights now feature a new magnifying glass, providing illumination similar to Matrix Intelli-Lux LED headlights. The Mokka Edition comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, while the GS Line boasts 18-inch rims. The GS Line also features a Diamond Black Roof as standard, along with Shark Fin Antennas for clear broadcasting.

A new Opel badge has been added to the front Vizor, bootlid, and alloy wheel center caps, reinforcing the brand's identity. Safety features remain comprehensive, with both models including front and rear parking sensors. The GS Line adds lateral parking sensors and a rear-view camera for easier parking. The side mirrors are heated, electrically adjustable, and power foldable, featuring a Blind Spot Warning Function for enhanced safety.

Interior Enhancements and Technology

The interior of the new Mokka has been upgraded with a frameless electro-chrome rearview mirror, ensuring the driver isn't dazzled by bright following lights. The driver's digital display cluster is a standard 10-inch screen, complemented by a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Qualcomm technology. An updated steering wheel includes the new Opel badge and is heated as standard, along with an eToggle gear knob and electronic parking brake.

The Mokka Edition features stylish cloth seats, while the GS Line offers heated and massage leather seats for added comfort. USB ports have been upgraded to C-Type in the front for wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the rear seats include two A-Type slots for passenger charging. A wireless charger is also included.

Design and Performance

The compact five-seater, measuring 4.15 meters in length, exudes strength of character through its short overhangs and wide footprint. The silhouette of the new Mokka stands out for its meticulous details. From the front, the most striking element is the Vizor, which combines the grille, LED headlights, and the new logo into a single, unmistakable design.

The interior features the Opel Pure Panel, which incorporates two large screens to leave room only for the essentials. Unlike traditional dashboards overloaded with information, the Pure Panel presents a clean and intuitive layout. Designers have emphasized digital detox, ensuring the system works intuitively without distracting the driver. Buttons still control essential functions without requiring navigation through menus.

Powertrain and Driving Aids

The Mokka’s award-winning petrol engine delivers a balance of performance and efficiency. A 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine produces 96kW at 5,500 r/min, with low internal friction and responsive turbo technology allowing high torque at low revs. The all-aluminium engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, offers impressive fuel consumption of 5.3- and 6.1 l/100 km on the extra-urban and combined cycles respectively, with just 139g/km of CO2 emissions.

Sophisticated driving aids continue the Opel tradition of bringing innovative technologies to a wide range of buyers. Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Detection is available on GS Line models, working at speeds above 5km/h. Adaptive cruise control is also available on GS Line models, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead using radar sensors and cameras. It operates between 30km/h and 180km/h, adjusting speed accordingly.

Pricing and Warranty

The new Opel Mokka comes with a standard five years/100,000km warranty and Roadside Assistance. Service intervals are every 12 months or 15,000km, covered by the Mokka’s three years/60,000km service plan. The pricing for the new models is as follows:

  • Opel Mokka 1.2T Edition – R519,900
  • Opel Mokka 1.2T GS Line – R564,900
