The Cash Prize Changes Everything

This week on Bachelor in Paradise, the singles learned about the $500,000 cash prize — and suddenly love was the last thing on their minds. The focus shifted from romance to strategy as couples began to think more about the financial opportunity than their relationships.

Jesse Palmer had to explain the new rose ceremony rules multiple times before everything clicked. It's clear that this season is taking a different turn, with the stakes higher than ever.

Stage 2: Focus on Existing Couples

We've reached Stage 2 of the Paradise "journey," which centers on the existing couples and tests the strength of their relationships. Jesse explained in his Very Serious Host™ voice that "In the end, the strongest and the most deserving couples are going to be faced with a life-changing opportunity: The possibility of leaving Paradise with up to half a million dollars."

It's like Bachelor Pad taken to a whole new level. If you haven't seen Bachelor Pad, it's worth watching. Season 1 is available on Hulu, and it gives a glimpse into what Bachelor in Paradise could be.

Who Arrived?

No one! This week, there were no new arrivals. The focus remained on the current couples and how they handle the pressure of the cash prize.

The couples who stayed included Dale and Kat, Spencer and Jess, Andrew and Alexe, and Keith and Kathy. These relationships will be tested further as the competition intensifies.

The Relationship Test: High, Low, Whaddya Know?

This week’s relationship test was called “High, Low, Whaddya Know,” where couples had to place bets on how their partner answered a question with a numerical answer. For example, “How many kids do you want to have?” The three couples with the lowest scores were at risk of being sent home, while the winning couple could save two others.

Gary Makes It Official with Leslie

Gary made it official with Leslie, and it was clear that the chemistry between them was undeniable. “I was not expecting to be the hot commodity, but it turns out to be just that,” he said. Nancy, Natascha, and Leslie all hoped to get Gary's rose, but in the end, the sparks between him and Leslie burned too bright to be ignored.

This meant that April, Nancy, and Natascha had to leave. Unfortunately for Leslie, Gary wasn’t great at poker, and his poor bet during the relationship test left them in the bottom three.

Kim Takes a Leap of Faith

Even though Faith couldn’t ask Kim on a date last week (because he was offsite getting a medical checkup), the 62-year-old teacher from Washington sat down with the captain for a chat before the rose ceremony. “I like people that have passion and drive and do what they love in life,” she told him.

Kim, however, wanted to find out more about Nancy before making his decision. The two shared a sad history — they each lost a spouse after a years-long illness. Kim revealed that right before his wife died, she said, “I've had too much joy in my life — it just wouldn't be right to end it being sad.”

Ultimately, Kim chose to give his rose to Faith, a free spirit and fellow Washingtonian. As for the money? Neither of them seemed to care. She hates game shows, and he's legitimately there for love.

Sean Holds On to Allyshia (For Now)

While Sean is smitten with Allyshia, she seems content with her current situation. “If Dale gave me a rose, I would have happily accepted,” she admitted. “I'm happy with where I'm at with Sean and I genuinely find myself wanting to get to know more about him.”

Jonathan Gives Lea the Runaround

These two, who were friends before Paradise, didn't win the relationship test, but they also didn't end up in the bottom three. During the cocktail party before the rose ceremony, Jonathan informed Kat that he has no romantic feelings for Lea — and shockingly, he hadn't made this clear to Lea.

Kat immediately let Lea know that she was being strung along, and she didn’t love it. She found Jonathan and demanded to know whether he saw relationship potential with her. He equivocated, and finally said, “If you need me to be black and white… I will just say no.” With that, she stormed off — and then completely flames Jonathan at the rose ceremony.

Brian Tells Parisa to Zip It

The night before the rose ceremony, night-vision cameras captured Parisa crying in bed to Brian about their relationship. “I'm very frustrated,” she cried. “I don't know what's happening between us!”

In the cold light of day, things weren’t much better. During the relationship test, they got question after question wrong and ended up in the bottom three. Even so, later that night, Brian told Parisa she “over communicates” and should “hold things in” more.

Jeremy Buys More Time with Bailey

Did you see this dude's face when Jesse announced that there would be no new arrivals? You could practically read the thought bubble above his head: “But I was gonna keep stringing Bailey along while I waited for someone hotter to arrive!”

Then Jeremy found out about the money, and suddenly he was all about proving they're the strongest couple. When it comes to knowing random facts about each other, at least, they are the strongest couple: Jeremy and Bailey won the relationship test and were rewarded with a one-on-one date. Even so, I can't stand him. He literally said he doesn't like the Goldens! What kind of monster has a problem with cute senior citizens?

On an unrelated note, Jeremy enjoys tormenting Brian by suggesting he may get Bailey to send him and Parisa home. What he doesn't realize is that Brian is just biding his time before he tells Bailey everything Jeremy said about wanting to be with Susie instead of her. Oh boy, that moment cannot come soon enough.

The Couple Going Home

After gifting Faith a rose (which she gives to Kim), a tearful Bailey called Leslie's name and said, “Leslie, I love you so much, and you've been so important to my journey here in Paradise. I'm so sorry that I can't offer you this rose. I really hope you and Gary find each other after this.”

This means Brian and Parisa will live to fight (with each other) another day. Blech.
