Baltimore Ravens' Practice Highlights and Key Players to Watch

The Baltimore Ravens returned to the practice field at the Under Armour Performance Center on Saturday, marking their first session following a 24-16 preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts. Head coach John Harbaugh praised the intensity and spirit of the practice, noting that it was an important step in elevating their execution.

"Really good, spirited practice, very intense, which is great two days after a game," Harbaugh said. "And then, I thought, pretty darn sharp. This is an important stretch. This particular part of camp is really about taking that execution to [another] level. That's really what we're intentional about right now in everything we do — getting as good as we can at what we do, how we do it."

While the passing offense didn't shine in the previous game, both Cooper Rush and Devin Leary showed improvement during Saturday’s practice. Their performances, along with Lamar Jackson's, gave wide receivers opportunities to showcase their skills. Devontez Walker made a beautiful over-the-shoulder catch, while DeAndre Hopkins secured a contested reception in a red zone drill.

Defensive players also had standout moments. Nate Wiggins picked off Jackson during a red zone drill, and Chidobe Awuzie intercepted him later in the session. Wiggins also excelled in one-on-one drills, showcasing his coverage skills against key receivers.

Lamar Jackson continued to display his superstar potential, making several impressive plays, including a touchdown pass to Zay Flowers and back-to-back touchdowns to Mark Andrews and Charlie Kolar. The tight ends, including Isaiah Likely (who is still out due to a foot injury), have maintained strong performances.

Notable Moments from Practice

At the end of practice, the Ravens set up a unique scenario where five offensive linemen faced four defensive linemen. Malik Hamm had a highlight-reel moment, spinning past Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan twice to make a big play.

Rookie cornerback Marquise Robinson received coaching from Chuck Pagano, who returned to coaching this season. After receiving feedback, Robinson improved significantly, tipping a ball away and securing an interception.

On the offensive line, there were several false starts and penalties, leading to substitutions and post-practice sprints. Defensive player Beau Brade had a notable play by forcing a fumble, which led to a scramble before Teddye Buchanan recovered the ball.

M.J. Devonshire, who joined the team after Bihlal Kone's season-ending injury, made his practice debut. Several players, including Kyle Hamilton, Keaton Mitchell, T.J. Tampa, Robert Longerbeam, and William Kwenkeu, did not participate in practice. Harbaugh confirmed that the injuries to these players are not serious.

Key Players to Watch Ahead of Week 2

With the Ravens preparing for their Week 2 preseason game against the Cowboys and the NFL roster cut deadline approaching, several players have stood out:

Keaton Mitchell – Running Back

Mitchell ran for 68 yards and a touchdown in the previous game, showing signs of returning to form after recovering from an ACL injury. He has been consistent in practice, demonstrating improved strength and confidence. His ability to break tackles and gain yards after contact has impressed the coaching staff.

LaJohntay Wester – Wide Receiver

Wester made a significant impact with a punt return touchdown, fulfilling his pregame prediction. His speed and quickness have been evident in practice, and he has shown promise as a special teams contributor. He also had two catches for 41 yards, including a 30-yard reception.

Andrew Vorhees – Guard

Vorhees has emerged as a strong contender for the left guard position, impressing with his physicality and performance in team drills. His ability to dominate at the point of attack has made him a valuable asset on the offensive line.

Adisa Isaac – Linebacker

Isaac, a third-round pick from Penn State, has shown flashes of potential in practice. He recorded a sack and multiple tackles in the previous game, proving his worth in the linebacker rotation. Despite limited playing time last season due to injuries, he continues to demonstrate his ability to contribute.

These players represent the depth and talent within the Ravens' roster as they prepare for the upcoming challenges in the preseason and beyond.
