Final Weekend of New York City's Summer Streets in Manhattan

As the summer season draws to a close, New York City is celebrating its final weekend of the Summer Streets initiative in Manhattan. This unique event transforms parts of the city into car-free zones, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the streets for walking, running, biking, and participating in various cultural activities.

The route spans from the Brooklyn Bridge up to Dyckman Street, completely closed to vehicles on Saturday. The event runs from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a vibrant atmosphere filled with entertainment, performances, and interactive experiences. This marks the third consecutive weekend of Summer Streets in Manhattan, following the program’s launch in Queens and Staten Island in July.

According to the New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) website, the usual traffic noise and honking horns will be replaced by open streets teeming with walkers, bikers, runners, and performers. Visitors can explore a wide range of free cultural programs, performances, fitness classes, interactive art installations, giveaways, and more, all while experiencing the city in a new and exciting way.

Summer Streets will conclude for the year next weekend in Brooklyn and the Bronx. In addition to this seasonal event, the city also hosts "Open Streets" throughout the year, providing ongoing opportunities for people to enjoy the streets without the presence of vehicles.
