■ What is “Hatsune Miku”?
“Hatsune Miku” is a singing voice synthesizer software developed by Crypton Future Media, Inc. on August 31, 2007, that allows users to make her sing by inputting lyrics and a melody. The software became a cultural phenomenon when many creators began posting music they had made with it online, and she is now also active in various fields as a "virtual singer."
The "MIKU EXPO" world tour series celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2024, completing tours in 17 cities in North America, 6 cities in Europe, and 5 cities in New Zealand and Australia for the first time. In July 2024, the "MIKU WITH YOU 2024" live tour was held in China for the first time since November 2019, with shows in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.
In Japan, the event series “Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai," which includes live performances and an exhibition where fans can experience the joy of creation, has drawn over 500,000 visitors in the 12 years since its inception in 2013. For 2025, it is scheduled to be held in three cities: Osaka, Tokyo, and for the first time, Sendai.
Hatsune Miku also has a history of collaborating with famous artists, having appeared as the prima donna in Isao Tomita's "Ihatov Symphony" and "Dr. Coppelius," and served as the opening act for Lady Gaga's 2014 North American tour. She also performed at Coachella, one of the largest music festivals in the US, in 2024, and various related events are held both in Japan and overseas.
