A Week of Music in Philadelphia and Beyond

Philadelphia is buzzing with a vibrant array of musical events this week, offering something for every genre enthusiast. From the XPoNential Music Festival in Camden to intimate performances at local venues, there's no shortage of excitement.

XPoNential Music Festival Lineup

The XPoNential Music Festival is set to take over Wiggins Park in Camden, featuring a diverse lineup that caters to various tastes. The festival kicks off with a cohesively curated Friday, aligning well with Dan Reed’s Funky Friday drive-time radio show. Headliners include War, the 1970s hitmakers known for “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” alongside New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Philly band Snacktime, Memphis soul and blues group Southern Avenue, and local talents like Black Buttafly and Fawziyya Heart.

Saturday’s lineup features Sharon Van Etten & the Attachment Theory, joined by notable songwriters such as Richard Thompson, Molly Tuttle, and Kathleen Edwards, who has a new album called Billionaire. Additionally, Soccer Mommy and Tune-Yards will perform. Sunday’s headliners are Australian guitarist Courtney Barnett and Michigan jam band Greensky Bluegrass. Barnett, known for her lyrical talent, hasn't released a new album with words since Things Take Time, Take Time in 2021, so fans are eager to hear new songs.

Local Acts and International Talent

Philly-based bands and artists are also making waves. Craig Finn, frontman of The Hold Steady, has released one of the best albums of the year, Always Been, and will be performing alongside Spin Doctors, Michigander, and local luminaries Emily Drinker and Zinadelphia. Finn has also collaborated with Adam Granduciel of The War On Drugs on his latest work.

Two bands that push the boundaries of punk are set to perform on the Mann’s Skyline Stage on Friday. Turnstile, a Baltimore band that blends hardcore punk with pop textures, will headline, followed by Philly’s Mannequin Pussy. The Lumineers will play at Citizens Bank Park on Friday, supported by Dr. Dog, marking their only announced 2025 Philly show.

Notable Performances and Upcoming Events

Other highlights include Kali Uchis' "The Sincerely, Tour" at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Saturday, supporting her 2025 album Sincerely, which was shaped by personal life changes. Mexican American norteño band Los Tigros del Norte will perform at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, while Elvis Costello & the Imposters with Charlie Sexton’s Radio Soul! tour will play the Borgata that night.

Freddie Gibbs will take the stage at the Fillmore on Saturday with producer the Alchemist, following their collaboration on the Alfredo series. The following night will see Sam Fender, the British songwriter, performing at the same venue. Morrissey is scheduled to play the Met Philly on Tuesday, though his history of canceling shows makes it a gamble for fans.

Looking Ahead

As the year winds down, anticipation is building for 2026 concert dates. Cardi B is set to release her album Am I the Drama? on Friday, with a planned performance at Xfinity Mobile Arena on April 7. Tickets will go on sale Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at CardiB.com/tour.
