Posie's Journey to a Forever Home

After 132 days at the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS), Posie is finally going home. A recent post on social media shared this heartwarming news, expressing gratitude to everyone who helped spread her story and support her journey. Special thanks were given to the behavior and training team who provided consistent care and attention during her time at the shelter.

Posie, a roughly 3-year-old Terrier mix, was found in the Deco District of San Antonio in mid-May and brought to ACS. She has been with the shelter for over 120 days, spending much of that time in the office space of the trainers. This allowed her more exposure and opportunities to connect with potential adopters.

When Posie first arrived, she had a slight cough and some dermatitis, but she received proper treatment and is now feeling well. She does not have any special medical needs and is up to date on all vaccinations and parasite prevention. Posie is also spayed and housebroken, making her an ideal candidate for adoption.

She is described as an active dog who prefers to be the main focus of her human’s attention. Older children may be okay if they can respect her boundaries. Posie gets along well with other dogs and has made some friends, but she would thrive best as the only pet in a household.

Posie loves to play with toys, enjoy puzzle games, and has a sweet tooth for treats like pup cups filled with whipped cream and peanut butter. She especially enjoys getting "scritches" on her bum and is affectionate with both men and women.

Posie has become something of an "ambassa-dog" for ACS, participating in several people training classes and attending events such as the "Sit. Stay. Learn!" event at the San Antonio Public Library. Her positive energy and friendly nature have made her a beloved figure within the shelter community.

The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m., and on weekends from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. There is currently no fee to adopt Posie through the end of August.

You can start by meeting some of their pets online via their enhanced pet search feature at www.saacs.net. Clear the Shelters is happening now through the end of August, meaning there is no charge to adopt any of their pets.

For those interested in volunteering, ACS always needs enthusiastic individuals to help care for the animals. Volunteers must commit to at least six hours a month for three months. You can apply for volunteer opportunities through their primary volunteer application or the parents with minors application.

Monetary donations are also welcomed to support the work being done by ACS. Checks can be made payable to "City of San Antonio Animal Care Services," or cash can be dropped off or mailed to the shelter. Additionally, you can donate items through their partnership with Daisy Cares, which accepts pet food, newspapers, blankets, treats, and toys.
