Weight Watchers Grilling Recipes: A Summer Staple
Weight Watchers grilling recipes have become an essential part of my routine, especially during the summer months when the weather is perfect for outdoor cooking. As the warm season returns, I wanted to share some of my favorite dishes that align with the program’s principles and help me stay on track with my health goals.
Grilled chicken breasts are my go-to choice year-round. They’re a zero-point food, which makes them an ideal option for any meal. Plus, they’re incredibly versatile and can be used in salads, wraps, or as a standalone dish.

This article was originally posted in 2019 and updated in April 2023 to reflect changes in the Weight Watchers program introduced in November 2022. The flexibility of the program allows members to enjoy a variety of foods, including steak, as long as they balance their meals with zero smart point vegetables. Another benefit of grilling is that it doesn’t heat up the house, making it a great option during the summer. Additionally, Weight Watchers dinners are designed to include foods that you and your family already love, making it easier to stick to the plan without feeling deprived.
Understanding Weight Watchers and Macros
When starting any healthy lifestyle, it’s important to consult a doctor about personal health concerns. It’s a good idea to have blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and hormones checked at a physical before beginning any new program and at least once a year thereafter.
For those new to Weight Watchers, there have been several program changes, and the latest version of the app now includes macro tracking. WW is a weight loss program that uses points assigned to food to help members monitor their intake. When you sign up, you take an assessment that determines your daily and weekly allowance.
If you're new to macros, you can use the WW app or apps like MyFitnessPal to track your food. Macros are based on calories, fat, protein, and carbohydrates, and you can choose between a deficit, maintenance, or bulk phase. I use this calculator to determine my needs.
I have been a member of Weight Watchers since 2011 and switched to macros in 2023 after the program changes no longer aligned with my active lifestyle and weightlifting routine. Whether you follow Weight Watchers or a macro-based plan, results depend on consistency and adherence to the chosen method. I’ve reached my goal weight multiple times, but when I stop tracking, the weight tends to come back.

Low-Point Foods to Grill
Almost any food can be cooked on the grill or even smoked. One of the benefits of Weight Watchers is that you can enjoy the foods you love with minor adjustments or in moderation. Cooking in the summer is also a pleasure, as it keeps the kitchen cool.
Using oil on foods increases point values, so instead of drizzling, use a brush to apply it more evenly and sparingly. You can also use zero-point sprays for the same effect—just a little goes a long way.
Basing your meal around a low-protein source allows you to use points on side dishes with higher point values, such as potato salad, pasta salad, or dessert. Most seasonings don’t add points, but it’s still a good idea to scan them in case they contain sugar that could increase the point value if used in excess.
Look for low-sugar marinades and sauces to keep the point value of your dish as low as possible.
Low-Point Proteins to Grill
- Fish Fillets: Most fish is zero points. Adding oil increases points, but you don’t need much fat. Salmon, cod, halibut, and tilapia are some of my family’s favorites.
- Shrimp: Easy to skewer and cook on the top rack of the grill. I often serve them with steak and zero-point veggies for a surf and turf dinner.
- Chicken Breasts: Boneless, skinless chicken breasts are perfect for a filling dinner. I meal prep extra for salads, wraps, or snacks throughout the week.
- Pork Chops: Boneless pork chops are 3 points for 3 ounces, which is a reasonable point value for meat.
- Turkey Burgers: Use ground turkey or look for low-point patties in the store. These are a great alternative to beef burgers with lower points.

Vegetables to Grill
- Grilled Corn On The Cob
- Grilled Portabello Mushrooms
- Asparagus: Bacon-wrapped asparagus is a delicious option.
- Sweet Potatoes
- Baked Potatoes
- Vegetable Skewers: Use zucchini, mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers for a colorful side dish.

Fruits to Grill
- Grilled Peaches
- Pineapple
- Eggplant
- Watermelon
- Plums
- Mango

Weight Watchers Grilling Recipes
- Grilled Cuban Pork Chops: This marinade creates tender, flavorful pork chops that the whole family will enjoy.
- Grilled Zucchini: Slice and season with a small amount of oil for a quick and easy side dish.
- Grilled Asparagus: Use a minimal amount of oil to enhance the flavor of this nutritious vegetable.
