Local Events to Explore in Alameda This Weekend

Queer Canvas Night Market and Afterparty

On Friday, November 21, head to Dragon Rouge at 2337 Blanding Avenue for the Queer Canvas: A Sex-Positive Queer Art Market & Walk. Starting at 7 p.m., this event is a celebration of creativity, identity, and unapologetic queer expression. Shoppers can explore paintings, sculptures, handmade fashion, and more. Some exhibits will be interactive, and live performances will add to the atmosphere.

After Dragon Rouge closes at 9:30 p.m., the night continues with a dance party. General admission to the afterparty is $25. The market is open to adults only and is free to attend.

Holiday Crafts with Color Me Mine

Color Me Mine offers two special events for adults on Friday, November 21, and Sunday, November 23. These workshops provide a relaxing way to get into the holiday spirit.

The Clay Gingerbread House Adult Workshop on Friday, November 21, from 6 to 9 p.m., allows participants to create their own terra-cotta clay gingerbread house. Beginners are welcome, and tickets are $75.

On Sunday, November 23, the Holiday Light-up Painting Party runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Attendees can paint their favorite holiday ceramics while enjoying wine, snacks, and a creative evening. Tickets are $12, and the price covers part of the cost of the ceramic item, which starts at $44.

Meyers House and Garden Tours

For those interested in Alameda’s history, the Meyers House and Garden opens its doors on Saturday, November 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. This historic property, built in 1897, showcases the Colonial Revival style of architecture. Visitors can explore the house, gardens, and carriage house, learning about the original owners, the Meyers family.

Admission is $5 (cash only), and no RSVP is required. Guests can take the tour at their own pace and interact with docents throughout the property. Street parking is available, but visitors should note that stairs are part of the tour experience.

Native American Heritage Month at the Library

November is Native American Heritage Month, and the Alameda Free Library is hosting several events to celebrate the culture and history of the Ohlone people.

On Saturday, November 22, at 11 a.m., listen to Ohlone Star Stories at the Leydecker Recreation Center. Attendees can also enjoy acorn brownies and tea while learning about Chochenyo stories and songs.

At 2 p.m. on the same day, join Alicia Retes, Storytelling Artisan, at the West End Library for stories and songs about companion plants, including the Three Sisters.

On Monday, November 24, at 4 p.m., An Afternoon with Cafe Ohlone at the Main Library offers an opportunity to learn about the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, play the Ohlone Staves Game, and receive a free book and acorn brownie.

Romantic Sunset Paint and Sip

On Sunday, November 23, enjoy a unique experience at Faction Brewing with the Romantic Sunset Paint and Sip from 3 to 5 p.m. This event is perfect for couples, friends, or singles who want to paint a masterpiece while watching the sunset.

No experience is needed, and all materials and guidance are provided. Tickets are $45, and each ticket includes one drink. The event is outdoors, so bring sun protection and a warm jacket.
