Biographer Pressured Epstein to Attack Trump for 'Political Cover' in Leaked Emails

The White House has recently accused congressional Democrats of selectively leaking emails related to the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. In response, Republicans on the House Oversight Committee have made public tens of thousands of additional documents, including emails between Epstein and prominent reporters. These newly released materials shed light on previously unknown interactions and strategies involving Epstein.

Emails Between Epstein and Michael Wolff

Among the documents are exchanges between Epstein and Michael Wolff, a magazine writer turned biographer. Wolff had reached out to Epstein repeatedly, discussing his public image and even encouraging him to criticize Trump as a way to improve it. One email from February 2016 shows Wolff suggesting that Epstein consider preempting potential negative publicity: "NYT called me about you and Trump," he wrote. "Also, Hillary campaign digging deeply. Again, you should consider preempting."

A month later, they discussed strategy ahead of the release of James Patterson's "Filthy Rich," a true-crime book about Epstein. Wolff suggested that "becoming an anti-Trump voice gives you a certain political cover which you decidedly don't have now." This indicates that Wolff was advising Epstein on how to navigate the political landscape, potentially leveraging the upcoming election to his advantage.

Strategic Advice and Personal Attacks

Wolff also took a swipe at the bestselling crime novelist James Patterson, suggesting that his work would generate significant attention due to its connection with the election. "Because this will be tied to the election, the Trump-Clinton angle will amp up the attention 10-fold, in fact, possibly, a hundred fold," one email reads.

In another instance, Wolff asked for introductions to Tom Barrack, a business leader and chair of Trump's first inaugural committee, and Kathy Ruemmler, a former federal prosecutor. He sought an "off-the-record perspective on White House procedures" while researching his book about Trump's first 100 days in office. Additionally, he questioned whether former President Bill Clinton would confirm he had never been to Epstein's private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Little St. John.

The Role of Virginia Giuffre

Some of the new documents include a short video of a dog and what appeared to be chew toys modeled after Trump and Hillary Clinton. Others seem to be slides from an advisor aiming to generate positive search engine results about Epstein after his child trafficking conviction.

One notable email mentions Virginia Giuffre, who was Epstein's most outspoken victim but never accused Trump of wrongdoing. The email states, "I want you to realize that that dog that hasn't barked is Trump," Epstein wrote in a message dated April 2, 2011. The victim referenced in the email was later identified as Giuffre, who died by suicide earlier this year.

Political Reactions and Legal Implications

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that Giuffre had stated that Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing. She noted that Trump had previously kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep to his female employees, including Giuffre.

Trump himself weighed in on Truth Social, accusing Democrats of trying to deflect attention from their role in the government shutdown. "The Democrats cost our Country $1.5 Trillion Dollars with their recent antics of viciously closing our Country, while at the same time putting many at risk — and they should pay a fair price," he wrote.

Epstein received a sweetheart deal in 2008 for child sex crimes but was arrested again in 2019 on more serious trafficking charges. He died before the case went to trial. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's longtime companion and accomplice, was convicted of grooming and procuring girls and young women for him but is appealing her conviction and continues to claim her innocence.
