Florida's Cold Snap: How Low Will Temperatures Go Next Week?

Florida residents are in for a dramatic shift in weather this weekend as warm temperatures give way to an unexpected cold snap. While the state is known for its pleasant climate, the coming days will bring a significant drop in temperature, with some areas experiencing their first freeze of the season weeks earlier than usual.

A major cold outbreak is expected to sweep across the U.S., bringing the coldest air of the season to the Midwest and Northeast. However, Florida is not immune to the effects of this arctic blast. The Sunshine State will also see a noticeable drop in temperatures, with some regions facing conditions that could lead to frost or even light snowfall.

According to Weather.com meteorologist Jonathan Erdman, "a widespread freeze into the Deep South with some record lows possible as far south as Florida" is expected. While the most severe impacts will be felt in the Midwest, South, and East, Florida is set to experience a sharp decline in temperatures over the next few days.

Temperatures in certain parts of the state could drop by nearly 20 degrees within 24 hours. For instance, areas in the Panhandle may see temperatures 15 to 20 degrees below normal, while South Florida could experience a decrease of 10 to 15 degrees. AccuWeather forecasters warn that some locations may even challenge historical records for this time of year.

Alex DaSilva, an AccuWeather meteorologist, noted that "temperatures across the eastern half of the nation — including all the way to South Florida — can be 8-16 degrees below historical averages." He added that northern Florida could see temperatures dip below freezing, with frost potentially occurring in the Panhandle on Tuesday morning.

Will It Snow in Florida?

As of November 7, only one location is expected to see temperatures near freezing: Tallahassee on November 11. However, snow requires moisture, and current conditions suggest that any precipitation would be minimal. Drought conditions are expected to persist or worsen over the next week.

Despite this, Florida has seen snow before. In January 2025, a historic blizzard brought 8.9 inches of snow to Pensacola, setting a new record. The storm also led to the closure of a 200-mile stretch of Interstate 10 in the Panhandle. Pensacola recorded a record low of 13 degrees on January 22.
