Israel-Gaza Live Updates: Israeli Forces Intensify West Bank Operation Day 2
Ongoing Conflicts and Ceasefire Violations
The ceasefire in Gaza appears to be holding, with Israeli forces retreating to the so-called "yellow line." However, renewed Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of dozens of Palestinians last week, as Israel alleged a ceasefire violation by a Hamas gunman. The situation remains tense, with ongoing operations and conflicts in different regions.
Hostage Remains and Prisoner Exchanges
Two deceased hostages are still believed to be in Gaza. Israeli authorities have been releasing Palestinian prisoners and the bodies of deceased detainees in exchange for the return of hostage remains. This process is part of an ongoing effort to resolve the issue and bring closure to the families involved.
Strikes in Lebanon and the West Bank
In southern Lebanon, Israel continues to strike what it claims are Hezbollah targets, despite the ceasefire agreement signed in November. On Sunday, an airstrike in Beirut killed Haytham Ali Tabataba'i, the chief of staff of Hezbollah. This marks the first time Israel has targeted the capital in several months.
In the northern occupied West Bank, Israeli forces launched a large "counterterrorism operation" around the cities of Nablus and Jenin. The operation has intensified in recent days, with airstrikes and ground operations taking place.
Recent Developments in the West Bank
On November 27, two Palestinians were killed during an ongoing Israeli operation in the West Bank. Mahmoud Qasim Abdallah, 26, and Youssef Ali Youssef Essa'sa, 37, were shot by Israeli forces in Jenin. According to the IDF, the two individuals were wanted suspects affiliated with a terror network.
The IDF stated that forces entered the area, enclosed the structure where the suspects were located, and initiated a surrender procedure. After using engineering tools on the structure, the suspects exited, and fire was directed toward them. The incident is under review by IDF commanders.
The ongoing operation in the West Bank has seen increased activity, with Israeli forces conducting airstrikes and providing aerial assistance. Over 220 sites were searched, and several wanted individuals were apprehended on the first day of the operation.
Search Operations and Airstrikes
On November 27, the IDF reported that security forces searched over 220 sites in the occupied West Bank, questioned dozens of suspects, and apprehended several wanted individuals. Weapons and money were also recovered during the operation. The IDF stated that the operation would expand as required.
On November 26, Israeli forces conducted airstrikes in the West Bank as part of a broader counterterrorism operation. The operation, which began overnight, targeted areas in northern Samaria, including Jenin and Nablus. At least three people were killed, identified as "terrorists" by the IDF.
Identification of Hostage Remains
On November 26, Israeli officials identified the remains of a hostage returned to Israel on Tuesday as those of Dror Or. The Prime Minister’s office expressed deep sorrow for the Or family and all the families of the fallen hostages. Or, 48, was killed during the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel. His wife, Yonat Or, was also murdered during the attack, and two of his children were abducted and returned in 2023.

Hostage Remains and Ceasefire Allegations
On November 25, the coffin of a fallen hostage was turned over to Israeli forces inside the Gaza Strip. The Ministry of Health’s National Center for Forensic Medicine will announce the identification once the process is complete. Two deceased hostages are still believed to be in Gaza.

The Red Cross is set to receive the coffin of a newly found Israeli hostage from Hamas in Gaza. Hamas announced its intention to hand over the remains, which it claims belong to an Israeli hostage. Three hostages are still in Gaza.
Ceasefire Violations and International Response
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Palestinian Islamic Jihad of violating the ceasefire by delaying the return of a deceased hostage's body. He emphasized the importance of the immediate return of the three remaining hostages held in Gaza.
On November 24, the IDF reported that several terrorists crossed the yellow line in Khan Younis and northern Gaza. Five people were targeted, with at least two killed. The strike in Lebanon that killed Hezbollah chief of staff Haitham Ali Tabataba'i was described as a "contained, opportunity-based elimination" by an Israeli military official. This marked the first time Israel has struck Beirut since June.
